First Marathon, Alberta settle

First Marathon Inc. has forged an agreement with the Alberta Securities Commission over allegations that it failed to manage workers in its brokerage office in Calgary, Alberta. The penalty First Marathon has agreed to pay as part of the settlement with city officials will not be revealed until Jul. 30, 1998, when it will be presented to a hearing panel for approval. The settlement marks the conclusion of a two-year investigation in three Canadian provinces into First Marathon's involvement with Cartaway Resources Corp., a junior exploration firm.
