Florida summons Ford, tire maker

The attorney general office in Florida has began an investigation into the Firestone tire tread-separation accidents. The office has already issues subpoenas to Bridgestone/Firestone, the tire's maker, Ford Motor as well lawyers who are handling cases related to the accidents. Ford and Bridgestone/Firestone, who are already facing a probe from the US National Traffic Safety Administration, have vowed to cooperate fully with Florida investigators.

Merger is biggest airline antitrust test for Justice

The proposed merger of US Airways and United, a move that will create an airline that is 50% bigger than its nearest rival, is expected to be reviewed very closely by the US Justice Dept. The pending case of Northwest and Continental, which came from Northwest's purchase of a controlling interest in Continental following a marketing alliance, will help assure that any review of the deal for antitrust concerns will not be cursory.
