For Music Industry, U.S. Is Only the Tip Of a Piracy Iceberg
Article Abstract:
Record executives around the world are watching the American recording industry's lawsuits against music fans who share pirated recordings on the Internet, but doubt that a similar approach would work in their countries, given weak copyright laws and the vast extent of illegal music trading online. Music piracy has caused sales of recorded music in Europe and Asia to plummet. Germany has been hit the worst, with sales decreasing by a third since 1998, and another 20 percent decline forecast for this year.
