Music Industry Ponders Costs Of Steep Cut in Prices of CD's
Article Abstract:
After a successful test where price cutting sharply increased sales, music industry leader Universal Music Group announced that it will lower its prices by up to $4 a disc. This move will directly benefit consumers but may hurt small music stores which will receive lower promotional fees from the producers. In the long term, analysts see this action as benefiting large retail discounters like Wal-Mart which is capturing a larger share of the market.
