Commercials that use dogs are being rated most effective. The Pets.com Sock Puppet commercial and the Lycos ads have been rated most effective and most liked of the 31 campaigns tested by ad Track from Jan to Sep 2000. They tied as the most popular with consumers. The Sock PUppet campaign created by TBWA/Chiat/Day in San Francisco, CA, was the first to break out of the dot-com pack at a time when dot-coms spent like crazy and created some outrageous ads.

Girl power: advertisers shift focus to female athletes

Advertisers are shifting to women athletes to endorse their products. Tennis stars Venus and Serena Williams are on their way to becoming the new endorsement champions. Venus Williams is finalizing a five-year $40 million deal with Reebok. She is also doing a deal with Wilsons Leather. She and sister Serena is also talking to Avon about a megabucks endorsement. They also signed a three-year contract with Nortel Networks in Oct 2000.
