Foreigners flee Canadian securities
Article Abstract:
Foreign investors have unloaded a record C$6 billion in Canadian securities in Jan 1999. The sellout has been attributed to the worries over a possible financial meltdown in Latin America when Brazil devalued its currency. The selloff includes $4.7 billion in money paper and C$1.3 billion in Canadian bonds. However, the market is expected to rebound if the US market continues to perform well, and if the Latin American and Asian economies stabilize.
