Freebies take on brash new form
Article Abstract:
Product sampling has taken on a brash new form to create a buzz. It includes strategies that are either outrageously over the top or sneaky that they fall under consumers' radar. Sampling can be the most effective and cheapest form of advertising when it works. While it is about 1% of the $93 billion promotions industry, sampling spending rose by around 9% in 2000 vs 1999. Once a mundane afterthought to costlier and glamorous forms of advertising, it is now seen by many marketers as a more cost- effective way to promote some products than TV commercials.
