Chrysler's final profit report is a record $682M

Chrysler announced that it posted a 55% increase in net income for the third-quarter of 1998. The car maker's net income rose to $682 million for the quarter. During the same period in 1997, Chrysler posted $441 million in net income. The figures were the best ever for the company in the third quarter. The quarterly report was Chrysler's last as an independent entity. Future financial performance will be posted under DaimlerChrysler's business.

Ford returns to bidding war for automaker Kia

Ford Motor reentered the bidding for Kia, the struggling South Korean auto maker, on October 12, 1998. Analysts predict that Ford will probably win the upcoming auction for the company. Ford was the sole foreign automobile producer to bid for Kia. Ford and Mazda own 16% of Kia. Hyundai Motor, Daewoo Motor, and Samsung Motors are in the competition for Kia.
