GM to add tire monitoring systems on SUVs, pickups
Article Abstract:
Automobile manufacturers are planning to add tire monitoring systems on vehicles in the aftermath of the Firestone tire recall. General Motors is installing tire pressure monitors to its sport-utility vehicles, minivans and pickups starting with the 2003 models. Chrysler, Lincoln, BMW and Mercedes-Benz are providing a few models with tire pressure monitors as well. The systems vary. While some trigger a warning light whe air pressure is too low, others give a dashboard readout of how much air is in each tire.

Repairs on GM's recalled SUVs expected to begin this week
Article Abstract:
General Motors Corp has found a fix for an embarrassing safety recall of its redesigned midsize sport-utility vehicles (SUVs) and its dealerships will begin repairing customers' SUVs as early as Apr 2001. GM recalled its 2002 Chevrolet TrailBlazer, GMC Envoy and Oldsmobile Bravada on Apr 5, 2001, warning owners not to drive them due to a suspension part that could break loose, causing a loss of control. The GM plant that builds the SUVs will resume production on Apr 19, 2001.

Big SUVs still selling despite gasoline costs
Article Abstract:
Sales of sports-utility vehicles are continuing to do well despite the sharp increases in gasoline prices. In the Midwest, the price for regular unleaded is now $1.80 while in Chicago and Milwaukee, gas prices are more than $2, the highest in the nation. Dealers say that more buyers are adopting a wait-and-see attitude and that they are hearing more complaints about rising gas prices.
