Truck market may hit saturation point
Article Abstract:
Industry analysts warn that the US truck market may reach saturation point as foreign automakers prepare to invest $2 billion in US and Canadian factories. With such investments, the market is expected to be supplied with over 500,000 additional pickups, minivans and sport-utility vehicles annually by the end of 2003. Foreign-made trucks, such as those from Toyota Motor Corp, Honda Motor Co Ltd and Nissan, have increased their market share to 13.8%, compared with 9.7% in 1995.

GM to sell old truck design as new 1999 model
Article Abstract:
General Motors (GM) intends to sell old-and-new design pick-up trucks in late 1998 as new 1999 models. Automakers are allowed to do so provided that the model year used in the designation is not more than one year away. GM's marketing strategy is designed to avoid government penalties for not complying with the federally required average of 20.7 miles per gallon for trucks. The move is also partly to ensure that GM will have an adequate supply of the popular and highly profitable pick-ups to sell while its shuts factories to convert its old C/K models to the new GMT800 models.
