Gasoline prices could drop 18 cents a gallon
Article Abstract:
The decision by the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) to increase oil production by 1.7 million barrels a day is expected to reduce gas prices in the US by as much as 18 cents a gallon. However, gas price reductions will depend on US refineries and where motorists buy their gasoline. The move to boost oil production was agreed upon by OPEC members in Mar 28, 2000.

Explainable - or gouging?
Article Abstract:
Gasoline prices have increased to $1.55 per gallon this vacation season, a significant increased compared to the $1 per gallon in the same period in 1998. The sharp increase in gasoline price was a result of a combination of factors. These are reduced oil production by OPEC, newer and more stricter environmental regulations which require cleaner gasoline and the high demand for gasoline due to more people going on trips and vacations.

Gas prices top record; EPA calls hikes 'inappropriate'
Article Abstract:
Gasoline prices in the US reached a record average of $1.631 per gallon on Jun 12, 2000, an increase of $0.14 per gallon within a month and as much as $0.52 per gallon compared to prices a year ago. The increase in gas prices, which the US Environmental Protection Agency deemed as inappropriate, has been blamed on scarce oil supply and the higher manufacturing cost of cleaner-burning fuel such as reformulated gas.
