Gold miners split on proposed ads to push jewellery

A proposed 200 million U.S. dollar advertising campaign to promote jewelry around the world has the gold mining industry divided between hedgers and non-hedgers. Franco-Nevada Mining Corporation Ltd. and Goldcorp Inc. have refused to contribute campaign money, claiming that hedging has depressed the price of gold.

Agnico-Eagle goes for the gold at LaRonde
Article Abstract:
Toronto, Ont.-based Agnico-Eagle Mines Ltd. will expand gold mining operations at its LaRonde mine in northwestern Quebec. Agnico-Eagle, which has obtained favorable share ratings from industry analysts, plans to produce approximately 220,000 ounces of gold in 2001 at the LaRonde site.

Agnico expects to end mill expansion in fall

Toronto, Ont.-based Agnico-Eagle Mines Ltd. has announced that it will finish the expansion of its LeRonde gold mine in Quebec mill operations by September 2000. Agnico-Eagle expects the new mill to double its production capacity to 5,000 tons of ore per day.
