HPV vaccine: Lobbying missteps

The quick proposal by several state lawmakers to mandate the human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine in schools, bypassing state public health systems, has proved controversial. This move, combined with the aggressive lobbying by the manufacturer Merck supposedly for competitive and financial interests, has delayed acceptance of a worthy anti-cancer technology.

HPV vaccine: Current situation: State action
Article Abstract:
Several state legislatures are proposing measures that would require, fund or educate the public about the human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine. Bills are brought out in 24 states and the District of Columbia that would make the vaccine mandatory, while some state health departments like in New Hampshire are offering HPV vaccine-financing programs.

Growing regulation
Article Abstract:
The state regulators who have started growing cosmetic surgery in offices and surgical centers are discussed. However President Pearlman announced that the American Academy of Facial Plastic and reconstructive Surgeons would vote in September 2005 on whether the surgery can be done in offices or not.
