Firms consider lawsuits against pushy Y2K consultants
Article Abstract:
Y2K consultants are facing possible lawsuits from a number of companies who feel that they have been coerced into spending exorbitant amounts in what is being considered an event that is mostly hype. Studies regarding the expense that companies made to combat the dire predictions of Y2K have revealed that an estimated $66 billion to $76 billion have been unnecessary. Some companies were said to have been forced into signing contracts on the spot by a number of Y2K consulting firms.

Patents are increasingly being used by businesses as a business tool to fight off competition. The number of patents have been increasing due to research and development of new products. While the patent system has been used for more than two centuries, some of the products and intellectual properties it now covers are very recent. The three broad categories of patents include utility, design, plants, trademarks, copyrights and trade secrets.
