Hefty surplus seen up Ottawa's sleeve

A surplus of $5-billion is reported in Ottawa for the fiscal year 2003-04 by the federal government and it is higher than the last year. The Canadian economist Dale Orr also a managing director of Global Insight expects a surplus of between $4-billion and $6-billion and this number can be high for the same year.

Dodge forecasts brighter future

David Dodge, the governor of the Bank of Canada, expects the Canadian economy will be typified by higher employee wages and corporate profits, lower inflation and improved productivity. Mr. Dodge made the remarks before the finance committee in the House of Commons.
