America Online Inc (AOL) CEO Steve Case has emerged at the top of the media universe. Case, who is considered a different breed from the typical CEO, has steered AOL into the top Internet access provider by being adamant in his vision and for knowing the right time to play out his cards. AOL's purchase of Time Warner, which will have a gigantic impact on the way business is done online, is the result of Case's painstaking commitment to the company.

IBM promotes powerhouse marketer
Article Abstract:
IBM has recently promoted Abby Kohnstamm to executive vice president of marketing, and more significantly included her to the 13-member corporate executive committee that supervises the company. Kohnstamm played a key role in changing IBM's image and in a short span of time, introduced marketing to all of IBM's offerings. As executive vice president of marketing, Kohnstamm will be responsible in bringing marketing to IBM's daily product development and selling operations, Kohnstamm welcomes the work, citing that the new position will allow her to encourage the inclusion of marketing in the company's plans.

USWeb reshuffles leaders, cites mergers

USWeb Chairman and Chief Executive Joe Firmage resigned amid pressure regarding Kairos, an outside scientific research project that will be presented as a 400-page book published on the Internet on Nov. 25, 1998. However, the company cites management changes instituted because of USWeb's merger with Internet firm CKS Group as the real reason behind Firmage's resignation. Firmage, one of the founders of USWeb, becomes chief strategist of Reinvent, the new firm comprising the operations of USWeb and CKS.
