Hewlett-Packard's profit disappoints
Article Abstract:
Computer company H-P has announced disappointing earnings for the quarter ending Oct. 31, 2000. Although earnings were up to $922 million, over last year's $760 million, Wall Street analysts said that H-P's earnings amounted to 41 cents a share, 10 cents less than forecasted. H-P has also called off its acquisition negotiations for the consulting arm of PricewaterhouseCoopers. H-P CEO Carly Fiorina says there is no single reason for the shortfall and apologized to investors for the results and H-P's inability to foresee them.

Hewlett-Packard is in talks to buy consulting unit
Article Abstract:
PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP has confirmed that it is in talks to sell its information technology and management consulting practice to Hewlett-Packard Co. The acquisition would cost H-P between $17-18 billion in stock and cash. The immensity of the purchase has investors worried, but H-P would profit from the acquisition by having to depend less on hardward sales.
