Industry analysts said that consumers could expect to see a price hike in gasoline as crude oil prices increase. Gasoline prices fell to an average of 72.3 cents per liter after reaching a high of 84 cents per liter about five months ago.

Buyers headed for Canada's oil patch in 2004 with billions in cash from unexpectedly high oil and gas prices to make acquisitions while they could still take advantage of buoyant commodity prices to generate cash from the new assets. Calpine Corp. of San Jose, California announced on June10 2004 that it wanted to sell its Canadian properties, while Houston-based Anadarko Petroleum announced plans for a huge asset sale.
