Gulargambone, an outpost on the Castlereagh Highway in New South Wales (NSW), Australia, refuses to give in to the widespread view that small country towns will inevitably die. Despite an ageing population and difficulties retaining its young people, together with a lack of many services, the community has responded with a 'Flying Ahead' project in order to ensure that the bush town continues to thrive.

The farmers are preparing for the worst locust swarms in the history of Sydney. The farmers feel that the locusts could wipe them out if they get on the wing, as in the grain growing regions locust infestation has wiped the crops.
