Housing market cools
Article Abstract:
Home sales statistics for Apr 2000 and since from the begining of the year indicate that the residential real estate market, which enjoyed a record sales year in 1999, has started to cool off. About 4.9 million homes were sold in Apr 2000 compared to the 5.3 million in April last year. The sales decline has been attributed by economists to higher mortgage interest and shortage in the supply of homes, but industry experts have more nuanced reasons.

Initial public offering dazzles
Article Abstract:
TheStreet.com's shares zoomed 216% during its first day of trading, closing at $60 on May 11, 1999. The online investment adviser's initial public offering was priced at $19. The heavy demand for TheStreet.com's shares reflected the investing community's seemingly insatiable demand for anything related to the Internet and the World Wide Web. TheStreet.com, which has yet to turn in a profit, lost $16.4 million in 1998.
