Australian Labor Leader Mark Latham's vexed question of protecting Tasmania's old-growth forests from the logging industry before the federal election would lead to a damaging revolt from Tasmanian Labor MPs. However, Latham stated that after consulting all the different interests, he would do the best he can for the national interest of Tasmania, Australia and the federal Labor party.
