Wireless could suffer Y2K jam
Article Abstract:
Wireless telephone service providers are urging people not to test their land-based telephones around midnight of Dec 31, 1999, because the resulting congestion could jam their networks. ABN AMRO analyst Kevin Roe noted that if land-based networks are jammed, wireless telephones will most likely be affected because wireless signals typically make much of their journey over land-based systems. However, these wireless phone companies say their technology will handle the year 2000 computer date transition problem without any glitches.
