Canadian banks are spending millions of dollars for scrutinizing their operation around the world in gigantic technology and business processes to prepare their banks for 1 January, 2007, the deadline for implementing an international agreement requiring new risk management procedures. Dragica Grbavac, President of Mississauga-based Tri-Media Corp; a consultant revealed that identifying risks could be anything from terrorist attack on a building to a clerical error in a small branch which is a task involving people.

Chatty 'Netpeople' greet surfers

Inago Inc of Toronto, Ontario, has developed a smart virtual lifeform on the Internet for use as an automated customer service representative on electronic commerce Web sites. The "NetPerson" name Mona can respond in synthesized speech to questions that by Web site visitors type in their computers. Inago said that the technology uses artificial intelligence to determine the meaning of questions posed by Web site users and is programmed to respond with appropriate answers.
