In Equipment-Leasing Deals, Let the Renter Beware
Article Abstract:
A major potential pitfall for small businesses is equipment-leasing deals that go bad. The Better Business Bureau reports that complaints involving equipment-leasing companies increased by a factor of eight last year. Small businesses are vulnerable, because equipment leasing usually entails access fees or deposits amounting to thousands of dollars, which are often lost when deals fall through in disagreements over changes in terms of the contract or frozen deposits. Small businesses should do their homework before leasing, and can find advice at www.chooseleasing.com , the Web site of the Equipment Leasing Association, which has a Code of Fair Business Practices on how members should conduct business.
