Missteps Pulled A Surging Dean Back to Earth
Article Abstract:
Various political experts believe Howard Dean's front-runner status as the leading Democratic presidential candidate before the Iowa caucuses disappeared because of flawed campaign strategies . Dean focused on his commitment to changing the country and asserted his objection to the Iraq war as proof of his leadership. Dean could not overcome his inability to let voters get to know him as a human being and his emphasis on his political agenda. He also failed to deal with politically damaging events, such as his refusal to reveal his gubernatorial records, his misunderstood empathy with racist voters in the South, and a 2000 videotape that criticized the Iowa caucuses.
