Omnicom and Grey shore up fast-growing media businesses with reorganizations

Omnicom Group will reorganize its media planning and buying shops, creating two networks to handle two different areas. The restructuring will create an American unit for Optimum Media Direction, O.M.D. USA. Another new unit, Phd, will oversee autonomous agencies. Grey Advertising plans to merge its Grey Entertainment unit with its G Whiz unit, to create G Whiz Entertainment.

Gunderson Partners, New York, names Norman M. Sherman president of North American ops. Peter J. Fitzpatrick will head the international business development. FCB Worldwide forms FCB Southern California, located in Orange County, from offices in Costa Mesa, Los Angeles, Newport Beach, and Santa Ana. Publicis S.A., buys DeWitt Media, and appoints Gene DeWitt head of Optimedia International. Hawkeye Communications bought Ffwd Group, London, for an undisclosed amount. Omnicom, New York increased stake in Millsport L.L.C. from 25% to 60%. Dentsu U.S.A. allies with Oasis Advertising, giving Oasis a global reach.

British agency companies love it when two big French companies talk media deals with them

As media services companies play a more important role in corporation marketing and advertising and are less impacted by the global economic slowdown, French ad agency companies are planning mergers and joint ventures with these companies. Havas Advertising is purchasing the Tempus Group of London and Publicis Groupe is forming a joint venture media services company with Cordiant Communications Group of London, England.
