In the line of fire
Article Abstract:
This article examines how Australian corporate leaders have been affected by the rise of global firms under centralized control. Relevant points include the trend for multinational companies, including those in Australia, to shift from a horizontal to a vertical management structure in which all parts of a firm report to a centralized headquarters wherever it may be in the world, and how the erosion of trade barriers and the rise of the internet have helped to trigger this trend.
