Intel pins hopes on price strategy

The stock price of computer chip maker Intel Corp is slowly sliding after after hitting a 52-week high of $140.94 on Jan 20, 1999. Investors are worried that the company's bottomline might be affected by its strategy of cutting prices to cut rivals such as Advanced Micro Devices Inc and boost its falling market share. Intel's share of the world chip market declined from 87.1% to 75.7% in the 4th qtr, while AMD's share climbed from 6.6% to 15.5%.

Celestica rivals warn of uncertain times ahead

Predictions of a mid-2002 economic recovery for the electronic components industry have been thrown into doubt by the September 11th terrorist attacks. Jabil Circuit and Solectron announced lower earnings, and Celestica is expected to report a downward adjustment in its 3rd quarter profits.
