JDS Uniphase continues along acquisition trail

Ottawa, Ont.-based JDS Uniphase Corp. has acquired Research Triangle Park, NC-based Cronos Integrated Microsystems Inc. for $750 million in stock. JDS, which is led by president Jozef Straus, was eager to acquire access to Cronos' microelectro-mechanical systems.

Exfo agrees to buy U.S. fibre-optics components firm

Fishers, NY-based Burleigh Instruments Inc. will be acquired by Vanier, Que.-based Exfo Electro-Optical Engineering Inc. for $275 million in stock and cash. Burleigh Instruments, which is a fiber optics components manufacturer, has 110 employees.
