Judge allows Loewen's incentive program
Article Abstract:
Loewen Group Inc, a major funeral services provider, has been granted permission by the court to implement a $31-million cash incentive program to keep the company from losing more employees. Under the troubled company's 'key employee retension program,' bonuses would be given to workers who remain with the company through the end of 1999 as well as performance bonuses for employees who contribute to increase Loewen's financial figures. The plan will cover around 2,100 of the company's 13,000 employees.

Rich Ford deal could set economic trend
Article Abstract:
Ford Motor Company of Canada Ltd has given its employees generous wage increases that are notably higher compared to other industries. The manufacturer's offer includes a 4.5% increase in each of the next three years, substantial pension benefits, child care benefits and even same-sex benefits that are not offered by other businesses, a trend which has also worried some companies over possibly similar demands to be made by labor bargaining units.
