The current available equity funds in Australia is estimated $4 billion, while worldwide in 2005, the estimates are that US$106 billion was raised. In the US and Europe, private equity funds regularly account for 15% to 25% of all merger and acquisition activity, but investors in Australia are advised to distinguish between funds that improve operations and those that do nothing, carefully select a fund on its track record and look for managers with in-depth experience in the home markets.
