The Australian Labor Party has got its much needed shot in the arm with Mark Latham being chosen as the leader thanks in no small measure to his mentor as well as surrogate father, Gough Whitlam's behind the scenes maneuvers. The man on the street as well as Latham's detractors are equally enthusiastic about the charismatic leaders ability to swing public opinion in the party's favor and his presence has rattled the ruling coalition which has increasingly got down to communicating with people it had earlier shunned.
