Labor's generation gap
Article Abstract:
Victorian premier Jeff Kennett's support for heroin trials in his state got a positive reaction from young voters, but older Labor Party leaders wasted the opportunity by taking a conservative position on drugs. Kennett's popularity among young people is at 70%. Thinkers in the Labor Party are studying his appeal with Generation X, people born between 1970 and 1985. Labor's greatest support comes from the Baby Boom generation, but Kennett is popular with their children.

Labor's unholy union of events
Article Abstract:
In a June 19, 2001 blockade outside the New South Wales parliament in Sydney, union protestors tried to get the NSW state government to back down regarding workers' compensation reforms, by trying to prevent Australian Labor Party MPs from attending parliament. If they had succeeded, Prime Minister John Howard would have been assured of a win at the next federal election over Labor leader Kim Beazley.

Add a whiff of blackmail to an already unholy stink
Article Abstract:
Australian Prime Minister John Howard hopes to pass the Wik legislation, but the federal Liberal party's market research showed it is not a major issue with voters. Voters regarded issues such as unemployment more important than Wik legislation. Polls further suggested that 30% of voters opted for the Coalition to deal with Wik, while 37% nominated the Labor party on this issue.
