Less stuff to strut, but a show goes on
Article Abstract:
Key3 Media, organizer of the 2001 Fall Comdex computer show in Las Vegas, NV, says attendance is down, there are fewer exhibitors and a smaller exhibit space. Despite these changes, Microsoft had a large presence at the trade show, introducing its Xbox game console and its Office XP, Windows XP and Pocket PC software packages. It is an easier show to navigate because of its reduced size and easier for prospective buyers to talk with exhibitors. The key product, exhibited by Nokia, Handspring, Kyocera and Samsung, among others, is the smartphone, a gadget that combines text pager, cellphone and eletronic organizer.

Makeover for desktop PC adds style, and a stylus
Article Abstract:
Sony Corp. has introduced its newest desktop PC called the VAIO Slimtop Pen Tablet PCV-LX900. The innovative design includes a stylus and an adjustable 15-inch flat-panel touch screen. The computer costs $3,000. It includes several graphics software programs, allowing artists to draw with the stylus right on the screen, instead of using a mouse. The computer has a built-in CD burner, built-in Harmon Kardon speakers and a Memory Stick slot. Cable clutter is minimized by fewer electric plug-in cords. PC users may wish for a machine whose innards more-closely resemble a PC's.
