Ford fights air pollution in cash-for-clunkers offer
Article Abstract:
Ford Motor, in an effort to do its share to help diminish air pollution, is offering a $1,000 incentive to car buyers who trade in their pre-1990 vehicles. The program, which was initially introduced in four counties of southern California and is expected to be introduced nationwide soon, will be in place from Oct. 3, 1998, to Jan. 5, 1999. Ford's latest program, based on the cash for clunkers program that has been implemented in Illinois, Colorado, Delaware and Arizona, needs proof that the vehicle being traded was registered prior to Oct. 3, 1998, and that it is still operable.

Dealers hopeful customers will return
Article Abstract:
Motor vehicle dealers are hoping to have more customers to deal with. Dealers stated that customers have been reluctant to deal with them as they fear that good deals would be hard to obtain with less cars for sale. Craig Germeroth, a sales manager of Felix Cadillac and Chevrolet in Los Angeles, CA, stated customers believe that today is not the right time to purchase cars from dealers. Several dealers are currently ordering 1999 models from General Motors Corp., which missed production of an estimated 600,000 vehicles since strikes in Flint, MI.
