Lucent faces uncertain future alone

Lucent Technologies Inc has little choice but to go back to a difficult restructuring plan or seek other partners after its planned merger with French telecommunication equipment rival Alcatel NV did not materialize. People familiar with Licent's plans say it will move ahead with a restructuring that deems 2001 a transition year with steady revenue growth and late 2002 as the target for industry growth rates.

NextWave stubbornly clings to life
