MCI WorldCom plans Internet services targeted at businesses

MCI WorldCom is introducing online services that will make it easier for companies to do business on the World Wide Web. The company is also launching an advertising campaign that will position it as a better provider of communications services than dot-com companies. Its new services will also allow businesses to create their own Web sites without having to hire experts. The new ad campaign will also drop MCI from WorldCom's name.

WorldCom may try to buy Sprint PCS if regulators disapprove its acquisition of Sprint, said some analysts. Observers say WorldCom has hammered out a deal to buy Sprint because it wanted its nationwide wrieless business. One analyst, however, said WorldCom may have to pay a premium to acquire Sprint PCS as Sprit may not be willing to easily divest a fast-growing business.

Sprint, WorldCom plan official end to defeated merger

Sprint Corp and WorldCom Inc are planning an official announcement of the failure of their merger plans. The move, which can be announced as early as Jul 13, 2000, is expected to free both telecommunication firms to pursue other negotiations with other interested parties. Sprint is expected to pursue negotiations with Deutsche Telekom, a company that is, in turn, pursuing a similar deal with VoiceStream Wireless.
