MTS-Allstream deal angers some investors

Winnipeg-based Manitoba Telecom Services Inc. (MTS) has proposed to buy Toronto-based Allstream Inc. for $1.7-billion, as the combination would create a third national phone company. The shareholders of MTS are hoping to stop the phone company's proposed deal with Allstream by moral persuasion, but are unsure whether they would succeed.

Bell to sell Certen stake to Amdocs

St. Louis, Missouri-based Amdocs Ltd . will acquire Montreal, Que.-based Bell Canada's majority stake in Certen Inc. for $89 million. Certen, which is led by chairman John Sheridan, is a billing systems company.
