MacBlo third-quarter earnings soar
Article Abstract:
MacMillan Bloedel's earnings in the third quarter ended Sep. 30, 1998, increased to C$77 million, or 56 cents per share, from a loss of C$2 million, or two cents per share, in the third quarter of 1997. Likewise, the Vancouver, British Columbia-based forestry company posted C$51 million in operating profit in the third quarter, up from $36 million on flat sales of C$1.1 billion. However, MacMillan CEO Tom Stephens stressed that there are no encouraging signs in the company's major markets, adding that a huge decline in prices of oriented strandboard will have negative impact on the company's fourth-quarter results.
