The news that Manitoba Telecom Services Inc. shareholders would consider whether the phone company would become one of Canada's biggest income trusts, resulted in a more than 9 percent increase of its stocks on 27 January 2004. Analysts estimate that with a market capitalization of about $3-billion, conversion to a trust would value the utility at nearly $3.5-billion.
