Manalta seeks bylaw change to buy coal firm
Article Abstract:
Manalta Coal Income Trust is seeking a bylaw change from the company's investors in an effort to acquire another coal company, a move that reflects the company's persistence to resist a C$550-million hostile takeover bid by rival Luscar Coal Income. Manalta spokesman John Taylor said that they will continue to fight Luscar's offer, but did not divulge information regarding the company's acquisition plan. Meanwhile, Luscar Ltd. President Gordon Ulrich ignored Manalta's latest move, saying that it will not obstruct their takeover bid, particularly when Manalta already dropped its poison pill defense.
