It's Time to Hear What Bill Donaldson Wants the Big Board to Do
Article Abstract:
Acting New York Stock Exchange chief John S. Reed has proposed major changes for the NYSE board, but securities industry critics want more substantial representation by institutional investors and regulatory functions removed from the board. What is curious is the lack of detailed recommendations from harsh NYSE critic, William H. Donaldson, chairman of the SEC. It appears that he is waiting for further public response to Reed's proposals, but he may cause greater industry chaos and confusion, let alone investor retaliation, if he refuses to pla y a stronger role.

N.Y.S.E. Chief Is Planning To Split Board
Article Abstract:
New York Stock Exchange interim director John S. Reed has proposed a reorganization of the NYSE board structure. He wants to organize independent directors, from six to twelve, to handle compensation and regulation issues. Then 12 to 18 industry representatives would form a separate executive board to address standards and stock market responsibilities. Members of the NYSE have to review the proposal and vote to amend the stock exchange's constitution.
