Microsoft faces new charges in antitrust case
Article Abstract:
Microsoft is facing new allegations in an antitrust case filed by the government in an effort to exhibit a pattern of strong-arm practices that extends beyond the Internet browser rivalry. The company was charged by the Justice Department and 20 states of attempting to carve up the multimedia software markets by pressuring rivals. The government also allege that Microsoft also forced personal finance software maker Intuit to use its Internet explorer browser instead of Netscape Communications. The new allegations could reinforce the charge that the company is bundling its Internet browser with its near-monopoly Windows 98 PC operating system to eliminate competition.

Appeals court reverses $17B airwave auction
Article Abstract:
A fedeal appeals court has ruled that the FCC violated bankruptcy laws when it revoked NextWave's licenses, which the company won in a 1996 auction. The company bid $4.7 billion for the wireless spectrum but was forced to file for bankruptcy protection after failing to make its first installment payment. In early 2001, the FCC resold the licenses as part of a larger auction. NextWave subsequently sued the FCC arguing that bankruptcy protection bars government from rescinding licenses subject to a bankruptcy court's debt restructuring.
