Midland put itself on 'watch': May have tipped brokerage staff to merger with Merrill Lynch, observers say

Midland Walwyn Inc. of Toronto, Ontario, is speculated to have hinted at its merger with Merrill Lynch & Co. Inc. by initiating in-house monitoring of its stock. The internal stock list called the watch list was sent out to top management who would check on all internal and external trading conducted, revealed Midland spokesman Peter Kahnert. A financial services expert questioned the motive behind the watch list. The transaction between Midland Walwyn and Merrill Lynch is valued at $1.26 billion.
