Sad to See Summer End? Travel Industry Is, Too
Article Abstract:
Labor Day holiday weekend travelers may bring welcomed profits to the travel industry, but the weak US economy continues to impact a financial recovery for airlines, hotels and other travel services. Because corporations have established their travel budgets based on reduced earnings , industry experts do not expect improvements in the fall and winter. The Oct. 1, 2003 reinstatement of the airline security fee of $2.50 per traveler ?is expected to have a negative impact on business travel by corporations that fly thousands of employees annually.

US Airways Plans a Major Overhaul of Where It Does and Does Not Fly

US Airways will dismantle its hub in Pittsburgh and move out of its hub-and-spoke routes, instead emphasizing direct flights in and out of Philadelphia, Boston, Washington D.C. and New York. The plan is aimed at protecting its market share in its best markets, and will take effect this fall.
