New Editor of The Baltimore Sun Becomes a Lightning Rod Again
Article Abstract:
Baltimore Sun publisher Dennis E. Palmer has selected Timothy A. Franklin to replace newspaper editor William K. Marimow. Palmer and Marimow had been known to clash over the publisher's desire to share articles in the Tribune Co.'s different newspapers. Franklin has established a colorful reputation with his challenge to access the autopsy photographs of the late race car driver Dale Earnhardt when he was editor of The Orlando Sentinel. As editor of The Indianapolis Star, he allowed articles that revealed Indiana Univ. basketball coach Bobby Knight's violent behavior against staff members. Franklin is expected to implement cost-cutting policies to help improve The Baltimore Sun's bottom line.
