New Ford ads link SUVs with outdoor activities

Ford Motor has launched a marketing campaign for its sport-utility vehicles (SUVs) that aims to establish a connection between outdoor activities and its vehicles by featuring camping gear, skis, canoes and other outdoor equipment. The campaign, called "No Boundaries Ford Outfitters", was launched Oct 1, 1999. As part of the campaign, Ford has sponsored a downhill ski event and developed a "No Boundaries" Web site. In addition. Ford's SUVs will be featured together in TV ads.

Ford Motor Co is releasing the Ford Shaq SST Expediciton, the firsttime an athlete's name will appear on an automaker's vehicle. Only 500 of the Expeditions will be sold at selected Ford dealers. O'Neal teamed with AutoOz,a custom car manufacturer, to design features of the Shaq SST. The car, priced from $50,000 to $55,000, will not be plastered with O'Neal's name. Instead, it will be on customized labels on the seat back, the console and tailgate.

PT Cruiser crash tests produce mixed results
Article Abstract:
Government crash tests conducted on DaimlerChrysler's fast-selling PT Cruiser revealed its good performance except for one major exception. The test showed that the driver could face serious injuries in a frontal crash. The national Highway Traffic Safety Administration reported that the driver faced a 36% to 45% chance of a chest injury on a front-end crash into a wall at 35 mph. The vehicle scored well in a side crash and a frontal crash.
