New salmon deal a sellout, Clark says
Article Abstract:
The Canadian government's agreement with the government of the US in connection with salmon catch on the Pacific Coast is potentially damaging to Canadian interests, according to Glen Clark, premier of the province of British Columbia. Clark maintains that the terms of the one-year deal, which aims to save about 2,500 coho salmon fishes, are disadvantageous to fishermen in British Columbia and to other citizens of Canada as a whole. The agreement calls for the US to limit fishing operations from July 27, 1998, to Aug. 21, 1998, and for Canada to allot 24.9% of the fish catch from Fraser River.
