Deregulation to bring more choices or higher prices?
Article Abstract:
Most cable television rates will be deregulated beginning Apr 1, 1999, which consumer groups say will be the start of persistent rate increases. Competition, which cable companies say will keep a lid on rate hikes, will only have a substantial impact on rates later than sooner, say consumer groups. Federal Communications Commission Chairman William Kennard himself said competition in the cable industry still leaves much to be desired.
