Compact trucks get makeovers for 2001
Article Abstract:
Automakers across the US are investing hundreds of millions of dollars into their compact pickup trucks despite the fact that they make little money on these models. Car manufacturers are impelled to sell small trucks, even at razor thin profit margins, to avoid government fines relating to compliance with the federal corporate average fuel economy or CAFE standard. Sales of compact pickups in 1999 increased by less than 2% compared to the 1998 level, while sales of trucks increased 11% overall during the same period.

Nissan drops edgy, macho ads for Frontier pickup
Article Abstract:
Nissan has promised not to use provocative ads for its restyled Frontier pickup. Although the pickup is aggressive and bold, and calls for a strong campaign, it should not go to the extreme of alienating audiences. The decision not to run the ad, which is one of several campaigns being tested and have been judged too extreme, was made by managers not as a result of negative reaction or news coverage. Nissan did not disclose the ads that would be used instead of the controversial campaign.
